LSRT
pursuing changes to the Licensure Law
In the January issue of the
Focal Spot Monitor
it was reported the LSRT was active in preparing a proposal for some changes
to
L.R.S. 37:3200-3219 (Radiologic Technologists Licensing Law).
The proposed changes were the result of an LSRTBE committee and the LSRT
working together to address licensure issues facing the professional areas of
fusion
imaging
and the
Radiologist Assistant.
This article is a follow-up article to update LSRT members on those changes
being considered. (see FSM volume 20, issue 2 for the original article)
The
Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (LSRTBE) law revision
committee has met on several occasions and had productive meetings. The
committee was originally formed to review our current licensing law with an
eye to recognizing and dealing with the changes in technology and imaging that
are so prevalent in the day and age.
The committee is
currently in the process of studying the various issues related to the
creation of laws and rules and regulations related to the practice of “fusion
imaging”
and “Radiologist
Assistant”.
The issues are
complex and the committee has concluded that it is not feasible to seek any
legislative changes this year but instead is in the process of exploring
temporary measures that can be put in place while these issues are resolved.
The LSRTBE Law
Revision Committee consist of a dedicated group of professionals who are
comitted to this process. The committee members are:
Laura Aaron, Ph.D., R.T. (R)(M), David Hemstreet, R.T. (R)(N), Gregory
